ORGANIZATION «MAMAY» PUT PERFORMANCES IN THE CRIMEA ON
UKRAINIAN – CRIMEAN TATAR FRIENDSHIP
Simferopol, Bakhchisaray, Belogorsk - 14-24 November, 2011:
The NGO «Mamay» in conjunction with the theatre studio of Vladimir
Zavalniuk performed a show devoted to Ukrainian – Crimean Tatar
relations in six schools throughout Crimea. Organizational support
for arranging the performances was provided by NGOs: «The Council
of Teachers» (Bakhchisaray) and «The Integration and Development
Center for Information and Research» (Simferopol). The project
was supported by the International Renaissance Foundation.
Three separate plays aimed at different ages groups (grades
1-4, 5-8, and 9-11) were performed by the theatre troupe. The
plays were based on various Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar fairytales.
The performances were held in the Ukrainian language in six
schools — Bakhchisaray school ¹ 4, Golubinskaya school (Bakhchisaray
district), Belogorsk grammar school ¹ 1, Simferopol school ¹
10, Simferopol school ¹ 2, and the Kolchuginsky Urozhaynovskoy
school (Simferopol district). In addition, a performance took
place in the «Karman» Art Centre in Simferopol.
The organizer of the performances expressed his gratitude to
the International Renaissance Foundation for its financial support
of the project, and stressed the importance and benefits of
such activities, stating: «We chose this method to help solve
societal problems through art and theatre because it affects
not only the mind but also the emotions. This project contributes
to the education of children of different ages about tolerance
and friendship among members of different ethnic groups, such
as — the Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars. And it illustrates examples
of the historical cooperation between these peoples».
