PUBLIC ORGANIZATION «MAMAY» PUT PERFORMANCES IN THE CRIMEA ON
UKRAINIAN – CRIMEAN TATAR FRIENDSHIP

Simferopol, Bakhchisaray, Belogorsk - 14-24 November, 2011:

The NGO «Mamay» in conjunction with the theatre studio of Vladimir Zavalniuk performed a show devoted to Ukrainian – Crimean Tatar relations in six schools throughout Crimea. Organizational support for arranging the performances was provided by NGOs: «The Council of Teachers» (Bakhchisaray) and «The Integration and Development Center for Information and Research» (Simferopol). The project was supported by the International Renaissance Foundation.

Three separate plays aimed at different ages groups (grades 1-4, 5-8, and 9-11) were performed by the theatre troupe. The plays were based on various Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar fairytales. The performances were held in the Ukrainian language in six schools — Bakhchisaray school ¹ 4, Golubinskaya school (Bakhchisaray district), Belogorsk grammar school ¹ 1, Simferopol school ¹ 10, Simferopol school ¹ 2, and the Kolchuginsky Urozhaynovskoy school (Simferopol district). In addition, a performance took place in the «Karman» Art Centre in Simferopol.

The organizer of the performances expressed his gratitude to the International Renaissance Foundation for its financial support of the project, and stressed the importance and benefits of such activities, stating: «We chose this method to help solve societal problems through art and theatre because it affects not only the mind but also the emotions. This project contributes to the education of children of different ages about tolerance and friendship among members of different ethnic groups, such as — the Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars. And it illustrates examples of the historical cooperation between these peoples».

INFORMATION: The NGO «Mamay» («Mob³lna Agents³ya Mystetsky Akts³y») was founded in 2011 to help educate people and instil patriotism and spiritual values through the art of theatre.
