A «WEEK OF TOLERANCE» TOOK PLACE IN BELOGORSK
DURING THE WEEK OF 14TH NOVEMBER AT SCHOOL

Belogorsk, Ukraine - 14-21st November 2011:

The school's motto is «Tolerance — the road to peace». Throughout the week numerous activities related to tolerance took place at the school. The activities included: tolerance themed performances; forum theatre; article writing; video, literary, and musical presentations; a roundtable to discuss tolerance; and a festival called «The palette of cultures in Crimea» to celebrate Crimea's rich and diverse cultural heritage.

During the «Week of tolerance» a competition called «Crimean Cuisine» also took place. The competition saw students from different classes prepare and present the national dishes of different people living in Crimea. In addition, the latest issue of the school newspaper was dedicated to the International Day of Tolerance.

The events were supported in part by the Integration and Development Center for Information and Research (IDC). IDC's support came from a project funded by the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities, with the assistance of the Government of Finland.

The «Week of Tolerance» in Belogorsk was also attended by guests from other school districts, authors, developers of the school course «Culture of Neighborhood», and representatives from IDC.

In addition, a concert was put on by Vladimir Zavalniuk's Theatre Studio and the NGO «Mamay» from Kiev. The performance highlighted Ukrainian-Tatar friendship and was supported by a project of the International Renaissance Foundation.

INFORMATION: The International Day of Tolerance was established by UNESCO in 1995 to mark the 50th anniversary of the organization and has since been celebrated on 16th November each year.
